Educators at William A. Kirlew Junior Academy (WAKJA) endeavor to follow biblical principles by providing a Christ-centered education that encourages preparation for this life and for the kingdom of God.
Each school day begins with staff worship followed by a student-led devotion. Week of prayer events are conducted twice in each year’s curriculum. This past year’s guest speakers were Pastors Ian Binns and Guibert Etienne. Thirteen students accepted Jesus as their personal Savior.
Ever since third grade, Tahlia Hutchinson routinely asked her mother, Dahlia, if she could be baptized. Her mother always responded that she was too young. However, as an eighth grader, Tahlia’s wish came true, and both she and her mother were baptized on March 9.
In June 2011, Southern Tidings featured the story, “God Uses Child To Lead Dad To Baptism,” chronicling how Maran Walters Jr. led his father to Jesus. This year, Maran was among the group of students baptized, so father and son are now rejoicing in the saving knowledge of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
God truly continues to bless WAKJA because educators ensure that students are introduced to Jesus in order to fulfill the purpose of Christian education, which is redemption.
According to Ellen G. White on page 30 in the book, Education, “the work of education and the work of redemption are one, for in education, as in redemption, ‘other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.’ (1 Corinthians 3:11)”

About Us

The Adventurer Club is a Seventh-day Adventist Church-sponsored ministry open to all families of children in grades 1-4. Our mission is to support parents and caregivers in leading and encouraging their children in a growing, joyful love relationship with Jesus Christ.
The first few years of a child’s life sets the stage for their future.  For parents/families of pre-K through fourth grade children, our Adventurer Clubs provide a safe place to encourage the development of the necessary social and interpersonal skills they need, in an environment that promotes Christian values and responsibilities.
Families will learn a variety of topics together, from character building, nature, hobbies, safety, and much more. This club also has parenting tips and resources through the family network and is designed to help you be the best parent/caregiver you can be as you partner with your child and other families to grow your kids to be the best they can be. Most clubs meet twice a month.
