Commentary and reflection:

Jacob’s story can move us to sympathy. The consequences of his character weakness in acceding to his mother’s request, by deceiving his father to obtain the birthright, followed him all his life. Sadly, time and again he reaped what he sowed with his lie from his father-in-law and his children. But despite all his mistakes, Jacob kept his faith in the Lord.

There is a place that God has designated for your meetings with Him; but the Lord seeks you every day, He goes with you and reveals Himself to you wherever you are, even when you flee from your mistakes fearing their consequences. Any place can be your Bethel, because the presence of God follows you, when you recognize it, that same place turns into “house of God and gate of heaven.”
In his dream Jacob understood that the Lord does not forsake his children despite their errors. The dream was really a revelation and a symbol of the living ladder, Jesus, who would create a bridge of grace between heaven and earth.
Jesus said to Nathanael,
“Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.” John 1:51
Jacob responded to the Lord with a covenant of gratitude. He would not return his tithes to God to soften His heart, but he would do so in gratitude for his undeserved mercies. No one will be more grateful than the one who is aware of his sins and accepts God’s forgiveness.
May the merciful God of Jacob grant you a very blessed day.
Pastor Abel Paulin

About Us

The Adventurer Club is a Seventh-day Adventist Church-sponsored ministry open to all families of children in grades 1-4. Our mission is to support parents and caregivers in leading and encouraging their children in a growing, joyful love relationship with Jesus Christ.
The first few years of a child’s life sets the stage for their future.  For parents/families of pre-K through fourth grade children, our Adventurer Clubs provide a safe place to encourage the development of the necessary social and interpersonal skills they need, in an environment that promotes Christian values and responsibilities.
Families will learn a variety of topics together, from character building, nature, hobbies, safety, and much more. This club also has parenting tips and resources through the family network and is designed to help you be the best parent/caregiver you can be as you partner with your child and other families to grow your kids to be the best they can be. Most clubs meet twice a month.
