5. How was God’s power manifested? Exodus 14:19-29
God delivered His people. God moved miraculously on behalf of the children of Israel. What an exciting time that must have been to see such a manifestation of the inexplicable power and might of Yahweh. God brought the unyielding Pharaoh to his knees by way of ten plagues. Pharaoh finally relented after the death of every first born in Egypt, from Pharaoh’s palace to the pauper in the street (Exodus 12:29,30).
“At each rejection of light, the Lord manifested a more marked display of his power; but the king’s obstinacy increased with every new evidence of the power and majesty of the God of heaven, until the last arrow of mercy was exhausted from the divine quiver. Then the man was utterly hardened by his own persistent resistance. Pharaoh sowed obstinacy, and he reaped a harvest of the same in his character. The Lord could do nothing more to convince him, for he was barricaded in obstinacy and prejudice, where the Holy Spirit could not find access to his heart. Pharaoh was given up to his own unbelief and hardness of heart.” RH February 17, 1891, par. 1
In other words, he persisted in his evil deeds without repentance that God was forced to give him over to his own constructed result. And so, Pharaoh fell from his high horse.
We have a great reason to rejoice today. In the final analysis all the enemies of God’s people will be vanquished. Just as how Israel was saved from Egypt (Exodus 14:30,31), those who heed the call of God and seek to worship Him, will be delivered from this sinful world.
The one through whom God exhibited His power, Moses, typifies Jesus Christ, the emancipator of humanity (John 3:16,17). Jesus broke the bondage of this world’s sin at Calvary. Spend some quality time with Jesus today. Reflect on His love through the Cross. See how His grace protects and provides. He will save all who believe in His name (Acts 16:31). You too, can be delivered from your darkest distress.
Today, may God’s power to deliver, become yours to live.
