Commentary and Reflection:

In the book of Judges, chapter 15, Samson slays a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey and then becomes thirsty, leading him to call upon God for water. In chapter 16, we see the story of Delilah, a woman who betrays Samson by revealing his secret and allowing him to be captured by the Philistines. These chapters show us Samson’s strength as well as his weaknesses, highlighting how his relationships with women like Delilah lead to his downfall. Samson ended up calling upon God for spiritual strength.

Samson and his spiritual strength:

What qualities would have enabled Samson to have that spiritual strength for a more solid spiritual life in the face of the enemy’s temptations? Some of the key qualities include:

  1. Unwavering faith: Maintaining a strong faith in God and His promises, even amidst difficulties and challenges.
  2. Perseverance: Being steadfast and firm in faith despite trials and obstacles that may arise along the way.
  3. Resistance to temptation: Being willing to resist temptations and remain faithful to the principles and values of faith.
  4. Trust in God: Fully trusting in God and His plan, even when circumstances seem unfavorable.
  5. Obedience: Being willing to obey God and follow His commandments, even when it means going against the tide.
  6. Humility: Always acknowledging our dependence on God and our need for His grace and guidance.
  7. Constant prayer: Maintaining a life of constant prayer, seeking God’s guidance and strength at all times.
Samson did not choose his friendships and relationships wisely.

Choosing our relationships wisely is crucial for our emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Samson did not choose them wisely, and that was the beginning of the end of his life. Here are some key considerations for making good choices in our relationships:

  1. Shared values: Seeking people who share our fundamental values and beliefs can create a solid foundation for a healthy and meaningful relationship.
  2. Mutual support: It is important to seek relationships where there is a balance of mutual support, where both parties feel heard, valued, and supported.
  3. Respect and trust: Healthy relationships are based on mutual respect, trust, and open communication. It is essential to feel safe and respected in our relationships.
  4. Healthy boundaries: Establishing clear and healthy boundaries in relationships is essential to protect our emotional integrity and maintain harmony in interactions with others.
  5. Emotional well-being: Seeking relationships that bring us joy, peace, and positive emotional support is crucial.
  6. Discernment and wisdom: Taking the time to discern and evaluate relationships, observing how they make us feel and whether they positively contribute to our lives, can help us make more informed decisions.
Choosing Jesus as a friend is a transformative decision that can bring a deep spiritual connection and unwavering support in daily life.
In the last years of his life, Samson realized that this relationship was transformative, bringing comfort, hope, and purpose to his life. From there, his connection with God became much deeper, and he decided to fully surrender to God.
It is my prayer that we can learn from this story to always choose our dear friend Jesus first, who will give us a deeper spiritual connection, help us choose our friendships and relationships better, and show us that our friendship with Him is the key to living much happier lives in this life.
May God grant you a very blessed day.

About Us

The Adventurer Club is a Seventh-day Adventist Church-sponsored ministry open to all families of children in grades 1-4. Our mission is to support parents and caregivers in leading and encouraging their children in a growing, joyful love relationship with Jesus Christ.
The first few years of a child’s life sets the stage for their future.  For parents/families of pre-K through fourth grade children, our Adventurer Clubs provide a safe place to encourage the development of the necessary social and interpersonal skills they need, in an environment that promotes Christian values and responsibilities.
Families will learn a variety of topics together, from character building, nature, hobbies, safety, and much more. This club also has parenting tips and resources through the family network and is designed to help you be the best parent/caregiver you can be as you partner with your child and other families to grow your kids to be the best they can be. Most clubs meet twice a month.
