Sunday, July 6 – Romans 8, 9

Study Questions:

1. Who intercedes for us when we don’t know how to pray? (Romans 8:26)

2. What does it mean that God makes “all things work together for good”? (Romans 8:28)

3. On what basis does God choose some to fulfill His purposes? (Romans 9:11–16)

Commentary and Reflection:

Romans 8 is one of those chapters you don’t just read, you feel it. I’ve experienced it more than once: moments when I have no words to pray (more often than you might think) and remembering that the Spirit intercedes for me (v.26), I rest in that.

This chapter embraces us, reminding us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (v.1), and that we are not slaves to fear; we are children of the King of kings.

When I reach verses 29 and 30, with words like “predestined” and “called,” I understand that Paul isn’t trying to complicate our faith but to assure us that God is in control from beginning to end. And I say, “Amen!” Our story, even with all its difficult and complex moments, is in the hands of the God who already sees us complete in Christ.

Then, Romans 9 shifts the tone. Paul opens his heart and reveals his anguish for those who have not believed. It’s a heavier, more complex chapter, as it addresses election, mercy, and concepts beyond human understanding. Yet what comforts me is that God’s mercy never runs out. He still has a plan, even when we don’t fully grasp it.

There are days when everything feels out of place, and we pray and don’t even know how to begin. Romans 8 reminds me that I am not alone. Even when I lack the words, the Spirit understands me. And even when my situation makes no sense, God can use it for my good. This isn’t an empty promise; it’s a certainty rooted in His eternal love.

And when I reflect on God’s sovereignty in Romans 9, I don’t feel intimidated; I feel cared for. Not everything depends on me. My story is not adrift. There is purpose, even in silence.

Today, I want to leave you with this truth: Nothing will be able to separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:39). May His peace surround you wherever you are, and may the Holy Spirit be your guide, comfort, and strength throughout the day.

About Us

The Adventurer Club is a Seventh-day Adventist Church-sponsored ministry open to all families of children in grades 1-4. Our mission is to support parents and caregivers in leading and encouraging their children in a growing, joyful love relationship with Jesus Christ.
The first few years of a child’s life sets the stage for their future.  For parents/families of pre-K through fourth grade children, our Adventurer Clubs provide a safe place to encourage the development of the necessary social and interpersonal skills they need, in an environment that promotes Christian values and responsibilities.
Families will learn a variety of topics together, from character building, nature, hobbies, safety, and much more. This club also has parenting tips and resources through the family network and is designed to help you be the best parent/caregiver you can be as you partner with your child and other families to grow your kids to be the best they can be. Most clubs meet twice a month.
