Jacob’s story can move us to sympathy. The consequences of his character weakness in acceding to his mother’s request, by deceiving his father to obtain the birthright, followed him all his life. Sadly, time and again he reaped what he sowed with his lie from his father-in-law and his children. But despite all his mistakes, Jacob kept his faith in the Lord.
